Princeton Library Struggles With Budget Yet Stays Busier
The Princeton Public Library relies on state funds tied to population, about 50 000 yearly, plus 98 000 from the city, 20 000 from Mercer County, and 15 000 from the county board of education. It also benefits from gifts and the Joseph Tomchin Trust Fund. With a 210 000 circulation last year and 61 hours open weekly, it faces overdue items and possible collection agency action if delinquencies grow. The library offers books, media, internet, classes, story time, after school programs, tax help, notaries, meeting rooms, and Value Line subscriptions.
