CIO To Construct Roanoke Building

Roanoke January 5 A three story office building costing about a quarter million dollars will be built by Local No 11 CIO Textile Workers Union of America. Deeds for two lots costing 24500 were recorded and plans drawn by E Paul Hayes. The modernistic hall on West Campbell Ave will seat 500 in an auditorium top floor.

Former Wise County Sheriff B Lee Skeen Dies at 74

Former Wise County Sheriff B Lee Skeen 74 died of virus pneumonia at Methodist Hospital in Pikeville Kentucky. He served 12 years as U S marshal and four years as sheriff of Wise County. Funeral 2 p m Saturday at Wise Methodist church with burial in Bolling cemetery. Survives six children two brothers and three sisters.

Virginia Sider To Return From Hospital

John H. Newman of Bluefield Virginia, son of Trial Justice B M Newman, will be discharged today from McGuire General Hospital in Richmond after a five week stay for heart trouble linked to his World War I service in the Argonne swamps. A veteran of the Mexican and World War I wars, Newman was the first Tazewell County man shipped overseas in the first war and later served as a Norfolk and Western conductor. Mrs L B Farley of the Virginia Side left for Richmond to bring him home.

Richlands Man Held At Va Side Jail On Weapon Charge

Elijah Whitt aged 19 of Richlands is held in Bluefield Virginia jail awaiting a hearing before Trial Justice B M Newman on charges of carrying a concealed weapon. Patrolman R H Burress arrested him Wednesday after finding a P38 automatic on his person. Trial date has not been set.
