Nelson former lightweight champion committed to hospital
Oscar Nelson, age about 71, described as impoverished and with senile dementia, is ordered committed to Chicago State Hospital. Judge Walter J. Stevens approved the action after medical testimony. Nelson, once boxing’s top star, faded after 1910 and has lived on a small pension and charity since leaving the sport.
