A coal car collapse at the Virginia Railway Shops in Princeton killed Martin H. Hull 31 of Princeton and injured coworker Robert E. Blevins 25. Hull died instantly from a crushed head, Blevins suffered a serious back fracture and dislocation. Witnesses said they were cutting through a gondola when the side toppled, pinning both men in a jackknife position. Hull, a car repair helper, leaves a wife Virginia and two children Lois Jean and Patricia Ann, with funeral arrangements pending at Seaver Mortuary Princeton. Blevins was hospitalized in Bluefield with a fractured lumbar region and paralysis risk. mortuary attendants described the incident as a longtime serious accident at the plant.

Brooksville Florida February 28 A 23 year old Negro, David Reese, has spent nineteen months in jail without a formal charge. He says the Army would be worse than the chain gang if released. Sheriff Lowman notes Reese was held on a verbal order from Circuit Judge Hocker after Hocker acquitted him of murder on July 20 1950. The case ties to Willie Timmons, co defendant in a bootlegging slaying. Timmons was later reversed by the State Supreme Court and resentenced for manslaughter. Judge Hocker says he does not know the charge. State attorney J W Hunter confirms the verbal order. Hunter adds under Florida law a witness can be jailed by proper court order without a technical charge.
