Death of Logan man probed in Charleston jail
Police Chief L. L. Wilson said no evidence of foul play in the death of 47 year old Logan tax consultant Wirt Stone Sr who died after 40 hours in Charleston city jail on a drunkenness charge. Jailer Allen Koontz was suspended after Stone’s death and a nurse had recommended hospital care prior to admission. Stone died February 26 at Charleston General Hospital after an operation.

Joe Puskar a 23 year old U S Army private was reported as a prisoner of war of Germany. His parents Mr and Mrs Joe Puskar of Gary No 6 have been informed. He was captured on the Italian front after serving in the Tunisian and Sicilian campaigns and joining the Fifth Army in Italy. His brother John Puskar also serves on the Italian front and is said to have met him in Italy for the first time since enlistment.

Admiral Nimitz announced raids on Ponape and Kusaie as American air attacks press the Truk defenses.
