Mercer County opens ARP grant applications again
Mercer County resumes accepting American Rescue Plan grants after a 2023 moratorium. About 2.5 million remains from the ARP funding received in 2021 for projects including renovations and equipment. Commissioners Puckett Buckner Archer stressed funds must be allocated by year end and spent by 2026.

Bluefield Board Approves Safe Streets for All Plan
The Bluefield Board of Directors approved funding for the Safe Streets for All initiative, begun with a February 2023 $497,550 U S Department of Transportation grant. Ten proposed projects were unveiled at a town hall meeting, developed with EL Robinson Engineering and AECOM to boost lighting, streetscapes and overall safety for the community.

Man found burned in ditch in Boissevain dies in Wake Forest ER
The Tazewell County Sheriff Office is investigating after 65 year old Barry Mark Groseclose was found burned in a Touchstone Road ditch in Boissevain. EMS airlifted him to Wake Forest Medical Center where he died. No suspects named and forensics tests are underway. Detective Justin McCulley leads the probe with forensic help from Lt. Mike Hall.

West Virginia Senate advances SB 870 dubbed anti woke act banning DEI offices and initiatives. The measure requires campuses to report compliance or lose state funding and redirects unspent 2024 25 DEI funds to merit scholarships and lower tuition fees.
