Welch built Marine dies in Vietnam after 400 mile walk
Julius Cartwright Foster known as Corky, 29, led a patrol near Khe Sanh when a Viet Cong mortar attack struck Hill 861. He earlier walked 400 miles from Welch to Camp Lejeune to spotlight American resolve in Vietnam. His body to be returned to Welch. twenty one Marines died in the same attack.

Basil Asbury, 50, of Richlands Virginia was found guilty of second degree murder and sentenced to 15 years in the Virginia Penitentiary for the fatal July 24 1967 shooting of Carrie Dell Wells in Raven Wells died October 8 1967 in Fisherville He faced a separate murder charge for Robert E Lee but that trial was postponed officials said during the May term Commonwealth Attorney Wade Coates was disqualified as prosecutor.
