The Commerce Department reports the U.S. economy grew 6.1 percent at an annual rate in Q4, revising up from 5.6 percent. Inflation remained low with a GDP price index up only 1 percent for 1998, the smallest rise in 49 years.
Virginia lawmakers near end of the 1999 session expect$50,000 in funding to create an implementation plan for a tourist train connecting Pocahontas and Bramwell. Delegate Tate and Senator Puckett helped push the budget language as Virginia lags behind West Virginia in developing the link.
A 129 gram moon rock on display at the Science Center of West Virginia comes from Apollo 16 and was retrieved near the lunar module.
