Vicky Thatcher schemes to wed Brian, angering Gale. Brian returns to the mill as old rivalries flare and Phil drunkenly shrieks in a crowd waiting for a confrontation with Thatcher’s allies.
In a crowded doorway scene the crowd argues over rights and fighting for dignity. A bulky man watches a girl in green as tension peaks and plans to leave the dance, while others debate authority and loyalty amid a noisy crowd.
