A five member advisory task force was named by the Mercer County Commission to study Mercer County Landfill schedules and operations. Members include Princeton City Manager Jim Juhl Bluefield City Manager Fred Burton County Commissioner Claude Blankenship and others. The group will work with County Administrator Fred Parker and landfill operator Butch Joyce to consider changes after complaints over a new schedule and rules at the Green Valley facility.

Appeal in Hajjar Case Is Dismissed
In Mercer County Circuit Court Judge William O. Bivens Jr denied the appeal by Rita Fay Fain and Michael Fain seeking a new trial in a malpractice case. The jury found no fault by Bluefield obstetrician Dr. M S Hajjar for birth injuries that left their child paralyzed, led to death in 1982, and the plaintiffs may pursue further appeal to the West Virginia Supreme Court.
