Mrs Dix 68 of Pulaski Va dies at a Pulaski hospital from injuries after a Friday night auto crash near Radford. Her daughter Mrs Helen Dix Straud and other relatives were injured. Funeral Wednesday at 2 30 pm in the Pulaski Lutheran church with burial in a local cemetery.
Newport police identified Aaron Meyervitz alias Danny Morris as the trigger man in the gangland killing of Clayton Farley 29, shot in front of the 633 club in Newport. The body was found in a parked car in Pittsburgh with a diamond ring and $342 on the person.
Edward J. McQuail Jr announces promotions affecting Clark Stores personnel in Welch and Kimball. B B Surratt moves from Kimball to Welch as assistant manager. John J Gianato becomes Kimball manager. Surratt has three years with Clark. Gianato six years with Clark and recent armed services return. Effective March 1.
Mayor Carter of Welch West Virginia dies at 59, born February 24, 1887 in Lee County Virginia. He led Mountain State Motor with J. G. Cartwright since 1919, chaired First Presbyterian deacons, and served on Welch Chamber highway committees. Survived by widow Natella Byus, siblings, and several relatives.
A man reports ten years with a constant lump of undigested food in his stomach. After using ERE-HELP a day later the brick sensation vanished, bowels tightened, gas and headaches cleared, leaving him feeling renewed. The ad promotes a cleansing product available in Bluefield.

Mrs. Margaret Ellen Beaver died yesterday at 3 o'clock at her daughter Mrs E L Holsapples home 108 Schenley avenue Bluefield Virginia after a lingering illness She lived with her daughter for four years Her son B N Beaver of Huntingdon Pa will bring the body to Entriken Pa for interment Surviving are three other sons Sam Beaver R 6 Huntingdon Rev R S Beaver Somerset Oh and Frank Beaver Marklesburg Pa a daughter Mrs Edna Marine Sharpstown Ma and a brother DeWalt Grove Tiro Ohio The body will lie at Wagner Hawkins Funeral Home until departure no funeral service in Bluefield flowers omitted
Mrs Katherine Victoria Buskill 10, died yesterday at her daughter’s home in Richlands after several weeks illness. Born in Smythe County, she moved to Richlands in 1900 and was active in the First Christian church. Survived by children Almer Dante Marvin Frank Lacy Ottie Kiser Beulah Welch and one brother Alex Morgan. 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral today at 2:30 in Richlands Christian church. interment in Richlands cemetery.
John Henry Overton 96 died yesterday at 9 at the home of his son S L Overton in Windmill Gap near McComas. He is survived by eight children including J H Overton in Texas S L Overton Windmill Gap W H Overton Martinsville Va Mrs J H Mitchell Martinsville Va Mrs Grage Danderidge Boxwood Va Mrs P W Smith Price N C and Mrs Annie Hill Philpott Va. The body will be taken to Martinsville for funeral services Wednesday at 1 p.m.

James R. Stafford 73 a prominent GilesCounty citizen died at his Pearisburg home after a two month illness. He served forty years with Giles County schools and over twenty as clerk of the school board. A former state legislator and juvenile court judge he was active in the Democratic party and Methodist church. Survived by wife Fannie Mae Brown and children including Chester Stafford and Virginia Stafford. Funeral at Pearisburg First Methodist Church with burial in Thessalia family cemetery.
E B McNeer Jr missing in action since August 21 1943 is declared dead. Parents Mr and Mrs E B McNeer of Athens informed by the War Department. He served as a B 24 crew member with the 308th Bombardment Group and was awarded the Air Medal in July 1943 for 50 missions. He attended University of North Carolina and edited the Radford Plant Weekly before induction in 1942.
Impressive funeral services were conducted at Calvary Baptist church for the Rev James Houston Franklin 77 who died Saturday morning at his Lynchburg home. The service was led by Rev H H Mauch with assistance from Rev Hugh Horne and Rev Cecil Cook. Interment followed in Walnut Cemetery. He was a former pastor of Calvary Baptist and a brother of Jess H Franklin of Bluefield.
The Matoaka Baptist church Missionary society met at Mrs. Frazier Wall's home with Mrs. French Dishnon leading and several assistants. The next meeting is set for March 7 at Mrs. Elizabeth Tiiley's home. The Matoaka Kiwanis club observed brotherhood week at the Methodist church with C. I. Butte as master of ceremonies and Rev. T. E. Shea speaking on Brotherhood. The W. S. C. S. met at Wheeler hall with Miss Glenna Wheeler presenting the program and Mrs. Flora Bowman reviewing the Bluefield conference. Mrs. George Allen's resignation was accepted and Mrs. J. R. Powell elected secretary of the children's department. next March meeting at Mrs. C. F. Bailey's home, program led by Mrs. Victor Farley.
The Matoaka church held a Sunday 11 a.m. service with out of town attendees. The Matoaka quartet, Roscoe Ford and wife from Herdon provided music. Rev. J. S. Foley delivered a talk titled She Hath Done What She Could. The event honored Mrs. Mollie Caudill on her 84th birthday with a special dinner hosted by Mrs. Belle Hartwell and Mrs. W. P. Harman.

Bluefield police reported an attempted break in at the Texaco Service station on Bland Street with two thefts over the weekend. A Studebaker truck with Sam Neal of Bluefield ownership is seized in Steubenville Ohio, and a Wellsburg West Virginia resident owns another. Separately a Remington portable typewriter and a Hamilton watch were reported stolen, and Rudolph Booker was hospitalized after a head injury found on the Bluefield State College campus.
Temperatures rose from 20 to 53 degrees yesterday as ice and snow melted across Bluefield and surrounding areas. About 2.75 inches of snow fell in the 24 hours ending 7 am yesterday. No major accidents were reported though many vehicles, including a truck on East Princeton Avenue and a Greyhound bus on Bland Road, faced trouble. A. Spears of Gary was released on bond after appearing before Justice of the Peace M. M. Day on a charge of possessing a dangerous weapon. Sheriff W. P. Dale said Spears had been identified by several Gary residents as an impersonator of an officer of the law.
