A Sunday afternoon gathering aimed to reinstate Eureka Temple 339. Mrs Mable Robinson was named chair of the reinstatement committee. All former Daughter Elks urged to attend tonight at 7 30 at the Elk club on Blind Street.
State police questioned four hours about Amos Eugene Ward’s brother Fred Ward 39 held for grand jury action in the South Charleston bank robbery. Ward was arrested in Huntington and questioned by federal agents, with officials declining to reveal details. Leonard C. Jackson faces $100,000 bond after pleading innocent to federal bank robbery charges, while Raymond Duvall remains at large. Louise Palmer 18 is sought as Duvall’s companion. A separate item notes no Santa at Merion Township Police due to gifts policy.
Sydney police shifted their probe into a four year old “perfect crime” the slaying of a young woman in luxurious pajamas now thought possibly to involve an American victim. Separately two year old Philip Powles was found in a school building ending a ransom case after teachers discovered him hidden by kidnappers in fear.
Investigation into a 1934 murder was revived when witness Charles Lynch, a traveling showman, claimed evidence the victim may be Nancy Ling of San Francisco. The half burned body was found in a roadside culvert in September 1934 and has remained unidentified despite thousands viewing the embalmed remains.
Philadelphia February 24 The legislative commission investigating criminal courts announced it would probe the acquittal of Mary O Connor a 19 year old physical education student accused of killing a five year old girl by striking her with the back of a hand. Senator Frank W Ruth chairman said the probe follows public demand for proper administration of criminal justice.
Regular sabbath services will be held this evening at 8 o'clock at the Ahavath Sholom synagogue. Rabbi Julius Kravetz will officiate assisted by the choir directed by Mrs. Nathan Effron.
