The United States and Britain reportedly reached general agreement on steps to create a nuclear force command under NATO. The State Department announced talks completed after a week and said results will go to the North Atlantic Council in Paris.
AFL-CIO Executive Council urged a rapid tax cut totaling 10 billion dollars retroactive to January, aiming to curb a potential recession. They proposed lowering the first bracket to 12 percent for individuals and 15 percent for couples, with expanded deductions and higher taxes on capital gains and oil production. In Morehouse Missouri a disabled World War II veteran Paul Saville age 47 his wife Shirley 25 and their eight children died when a four room frame house burned rapidly. Police said the sparks from the coal stove likely started the fire and the family had no warning. The Savilles depended on a government disability pension for support.
Mrs. Bessie FE Ellett Hoge widow of Joseph H. Hoge Sr. of Bluefield died after a stroke at St Luke's hospital. She was born in Blacksburg Va and married in 1914. Survived by sisters Mary and Sadie Ellett and sons William, Robert, Strother, Joseph Hoge Jr. Funeral arrangements pending at Hawkins Funeral Home.

In Temple Texas a bandit forced widow Mrs B Boyd to write an 11500 check and call a bank porter to deliver cash. The robber, about six feet tall in a stocking mask, armed with an iron bar, then took most of the money as the porter arrived and counted the funds. The porter dropped the cash when the bandit stepped out, escaping with about 1000. a stolen car linked to the suspect was found nearby.
