Bristol Va Feb 23 Ninth District Republicans nominated William C Wampler a 26 year old Bristol newspaper reporter for Congress He defeated State Senator J Marion Smith 3 2 at the district nominating convention Wampler pledged an aggressive full time campaign visiting 244 precincts in 12 counties and potentially becoming the first GOP full time candidate in months If elected he would replace Democrat Thomas B Fugate who plans retirement Also selected were delegates T Eugene Worrell and Jim Gillespie both Taft backers with alternates Hazel Goodpasture and R Clarence Williams The convention endorsed Taft for president and heard Sen Andrew Schoeppel appeal to Jeffersonian Democrats.

The Rev. J. T. Baker aged 68 of Narrows died at 7 p.m. in a Radford Virginia hospital from injuries sustained a week earlier in a car crash on the west side of Radford Bridge. His wife remains seriously injured, and Miss Nancy Frank also injured. The Bakers and Miss Franklin were returning from a Pentecostal Holiness rally. Survived by wife, five sons and three daughters. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

HOLYOKE MASS February 23 A 35 year old housewife Mrs Joseph McClain of Hampton Pond bore her 19th child since marriage in 1930 naming Leonard and expressing desire for more children though health limits. McClain 47 is a truck driver who married at 13. The family lives in a two story camp and consumes 66 loaves of bread weekly and about 60 pounds of potatoes. They attend church in two shifts.
