Gov. Jim Justice said three confirmed UK variant cases have been detected in north central West Virginia as the nation reports 1,523 cases. He stated that 42 states have seen the variant and that officials are actively working to monitor and control its spread. West Virginia health authorities are on top of the situation.
Health officials from DHHR in cooperation with West Virginia University and Marshall University confirm a UK lineage COVID-19 variant detected in the state. Dr. Ayne Amjad emphasizes continuing prevention measures and vaccination while Dr. Clay Marsh notes the variant spreads more easily but vaccines remain effective. West Virginians are urged to maintain hand washing social distancing mask use testing and vaccination when eligible.
Grants Supermarket workers at 16 locations across the region were treated to a free lunch in honor of the first-ever Supermarket Employee Day proclaimed by the Food Industry Association. Employees praised the company for pandemic support and safety gear as they returned to stock shelves and assist customers.
Jake Hatcher a Princeton native and World War II Navy veteran known for wearing his Uncle Sam suit and handing out candy at Veterans Day parades died Saturday at age 103. Born August 10 1917 he joined the Navy in 1941 to serve his country and community.
Mercer County Attorney and circuit court judge David Wesley Knight, 85, of Princeton, died Saturday. A native of Mercer County, Knight practiced privately before 21 years as Mercer County’s prosecuting attorney, then 12 years as a circuit court judge, later serving as a senior status judge. His peers recall mentorship and legendary status in the legal community.
