The fatality rate on U S highways fell to a record low of 2.2 deaths per 100 million miles in 1989, down from 2.3 in 1988. The trend reflects more belt use and safer driving, with the rate at 3.3 per 100 million miles in 1980.
Chattanooga officials filed a 10 page suit in Hamilton County Chancery Court to stop Tivoli Theater performances of Oh Calcutta alleging violation of state obscenity law indecency exposure and a local lewd conduct ordinance. The action targets the second longest running Broadway musical for potential obscenity concerns.
