The American Bar Association Federal Judiciary Committee again finds Judge G Harrold Carswell qualified for the Supreme Court. Chairman Lawrence E Walsh says all nine members present endorsed the nomination, reviewing professional record, judicial temperament and integrity, plus hearings and past speeches and associations.
The Virginia General Assembly has three weeks left in the 1970 session to align expenditures and revenue. Tax proposals from Gov. Holton and legislators circulate among finance committees as the omnibus budget shapes up. Democrats plan to outline tax positions Monday as they hold a 74 member majority, with talks on cigarette and liquor taxes and a pending gasoline tax increase in flux.
