Princeton, ranked No. 3 in the Area, defeated Athens 79-78 in overtime as Belcher sparked the comeback with 13 field goals and eight free throws. Athens' Quater led scoring with 28 points, and 21 from teammate Coburn.
Matoaka Indians beat Sandstone 57 to 56 at home after trailing in every quarter except the final. Owsley Hurst and the Shoda twins Paul and George led Matoaka scoring. Sandstone’s Me eS Se r Mowaks quelled the run but fell short. It was Matoaka’s season finale.
Virginia Tech's Gobblers snapped an 18 game losing streak by routing The Citadel 88 to 53 in Blacksburg. Sophomore Clayton Coates led VPI with 13 points as Citadel suffered its 15th straight loss and second of the season. The victory boosts Tech toward a Southern Conference tournament berth.
Tony Trabert and Hamilton Richardson, Davis Cup teammates, reached the final round of the National Indoor Championship in New York at the 7th Regiment Armory.
