Virginia PTA meeting honors teachers with candles
A February PTA gathering in Virginia featured Mrs Richard and Mrs Shields speaking on teachers day. The event included a candle-lighting for Tomorrow and a theme about service. Attendance was affected by weather with one class missing and Mrs Cook visiting the school.

Fire Breaks Out In Los Angeles Salvation Building
Fire at the Salvation building owned by C. T. Snidow on Fifth street began at 1 30 and reoccurred at 5 30 Friday morning, spreading from the basement bunk room to two floors and the attic. Damaged material belonged to Snidow and Anidow Sign Co. The blaze, blamed on a defective flue and furnace pipe proximity to wood, followed a previous bunk-room fire weeks earlier. Fire Chief W K Umberger noted the station was unmanned during the efforts, leaving the city unprotected.

Founders Day Program By Logan PTA Celebrates Anniversary
Logan PTA held Founders Day at the school with Mrs. Harry H. Ayre presiding over a brief business session. A play Tale of Three Letters was performed by Mrs. Roy Shambline program chairman and Mrs. C. G. Yost narrator, with the Glee Club directed by Mrs. Evelyn Hardy singing between scenes. Members taking parts included Mrs. Neldy Bernice Carter J. G Gillespie Glenn Matthews Blanche Treson P. B. Sburgeon Frances Yost and Mrs. John McDaniels. The room featured a Valentine theme and a large cake with 500 candles symbolizing the PTA’s golden anniversary. Monday is the renewal deadline for Community Concert Association memberships for 1947-48 with priority to current and previous members. Renewals must be mailed or handed in at the West Virginian hotel information center. Headquarters open 10 to 12 Monday morning. after that, new memberships taken on a first come first served basis.

Harvey J Billings son of Mr and Mrs Charlie Billings Springton promoted to corporal at Tyndall Field Florida home of Air Tactical School. Roy C Clark 17 son of Mr and Mrs Guy C Coffey Ashland discharged from treatment at Naval Hospital Bainbridge Md. entered service January 13 1947.

Overhead Bridge Contract Is Let To Francesca Of Fayetteville
The Federal Works Agency accepted the State Road commission recommendation to award the Princeton overhead bridge contract to J. N. Francesca of Fayetteville for 438590.62 dollars, 1.1 percent above engineers estimates. One other bid of 476950.90 by Montey Bros. and Charleston Construction Co. was submitted on February 11. Work to begin within ten days after contract setting, weather permitting around March 1.

Marion C. Oxley Dies At Princeton
Marion Columbus Oxley died at Memorial Hospital in Princeton after a two day admission following a long illness. Born in Athens on September 3, 1877, he was the son of Daniel and Elizabeth Oxley. He was an active Baptist and survived by his second wife Ida E Powell, four daughters and eight grandchildren. His body will lie in Memorial Funeral chapel Princeton.
