City Board Authorizes Bond Payments and Delinquent Tax Drive
The city board authorized bond payments totaling 36175.00 due about March 2 including 9625 from 1923 coupons 3850 from 1924 coupons 1000 from 1925 loans 2000 from 1928 bonds and 98000 from other issues. Treasurer Postlethwaite reported tax collections across 471 days and pledged continued efforts to collect delinquent taxes while noting only about one quarter of dogs taxed. The board ordered the city manager to pursue delinquent assessments on Juniper street and discussed street paving finance. Other items covered grading Cooper Grove streets allegedly and alley opening behind Mrs Hardy property with garbage handling adjustments. Temporary improvements to walk on Bland to Gilmer streets and use of Highland avenue for garbage collection were approved. Bluefield lodge indoor circus use of the municipal auditorium on March 31 and April 1 was authorized.

Charleston, W. Va., Feb 21 The two houses battled over a small loan bill with the House killing a measure to regulate at two percent monthly on loans up to 209 or less and the Senate defeating an amendment to raise to three and a half percent monthly The House debated repeal as unregulated and warned of possible amendments if the Senate version advances Senator Wiseman and Hodges argued over profits and bank dependence on six percent annual loans with Hodges asserting the DI would profit excessively and lenders admitted 33 percent annual margins while the bill would lift to 42 percent.
