Three murderers Tommie Mollohan David Williams and Fred Hamilton fled West Virginia Penitentiary by a 32 foot tunnel dug under a wall. Officials suspect outside help as roadblocks and a river bridge were secured. Williams holds life with mercy for a 1980 murder Mollohan has life without mercy for a 1973 killing and Hamilton holds three life terms for 1977 trooper slaying plus related crimes.
In Martinsburg, Sherilyn Williams was ordered by a judge to spend five weeks in second grade at Berkeley Heights Elementary with her 8 year old son who has missed 108 days of school in three years. Berkeley County officials say repeated truancy leads to court action to educate parents about attendance.
Mercer Manor, a $1.5 million three story complex on Church Lane near Princeton, opens to provide 37 low rent units for elderly and disabled tenants. Co owner Leroy Eslinger notes features include elevator, secured entrance, full kitchens, emergency call system, and accessibility modifications. Financing via Rural Rental Housing Program and Farmers Home Administration aided construction begun September 9, 1991. Rentals set at about 30 percent of income with utility credits. units require 62 years or disability and income limits.
