Lloyd Huset Returns To Thornton Post
Lloyd Huset of Minneapolis has returned to The Thornton company as advertising and display manager after three years in the army. He joined the air corps in 1942, served as squadron navigator in the 15th air force 485th bomb group flying a Liberator, credited with 47 missions in Europe and North Africa, and was discharged in 1945 as a captain. S. A. Wolcott, previously with The Thornton during Huset’s absence, now works with Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Co.

The Service Men’s club yesterday hosted twenty eight service men with two accompanied by wives and two by children. Nine states were represented. Mrs. Gwendolyn Bailey donated cherries to the club. Mrs. B F Lawrence chaired breakfast assisted by Miss Phyllis Williams and Mrs. Alice Walters. Mrs. J B Gilpin chaired the rest of the day assisted by Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Bill Vencent.

City to Call Paving Bids for 15 Bluefield Streets
City Manager Emory P. Mitchell announced bids for a street paving project in Bluefield are expected to be issued mid March. The plan covers 15 major streets this year with patching underway on Bland and North streets. Elmer Barton, the city engineer, has completed initial engineering work and officials will walk every street to finalize plans.

The West Graham WCTU meeting scheduled for today has been moved to February 27. The Music Lovers club hosted a program on Chopin and Shubert with Miss Ruby June Stowers presiding. Miss Stowers spoke on Chopin life, followed by piano pieces and vocal numbers by Miss Mavis Davis with Mrs. Dudley at the piano. Deserts were served by the hostesses. Also notes peanut products now used in meat and flour, salad oil, oleomargarine, peanut butter, and candy.

Local Folk Return From Funeral Of Kin
Mr and Mrs W L Myers of 611 Frederick Street returned from New Castle Virginia after attending the funeral of Mrs Allena Lites. Mrs Lites died Thursday morning at her daughter Mrs Frank Strauss’s home in Roanoke. Funeral held Sunday at Walnut Grove church near New Castle with interment in Walnut Grove cemetery. Mrs Lites, 78, formerly of New Castle, had been in ill health.
