Washington reports Postmaster General Payne and the president discussed actions in the Bristow case. Senator Scott of West Virginia had charged that Bristow ordered an inspector to Wheeling to probe a prospective postmaster candidate. Bristow admitted the inspector was sent and a mistake occurred but lacked official ground for the action.
West Virginia societies push to preserve John Brown Fort site at Harper’s Ferry. A deed in Jefferson county court demands payment on the fort’s indebtedness while bricks and scaffold relics from the fort are found in homes and yards, sparking a local relic trade.
A group of young men organized the Lovers' Aid Society at a fellow member's home last Thursday. They elected officers, adopted rules including fines for not marrying within a year and for stealing a sweetheart, and set weekly meetings with sick and death benefits.

Investors rush to lease sales as Land No 3 is touted for big returns with stock to rise March 1 and minimum subsptions of 50 shares at 6.25 dollars. W S Foutz secretary treasurer Bluefield West Virginia urges swift action.

Drilling will start soon after gear arrives, as they seek funds to develop, build tanks and expand.
