West Virginia Education Department study of 5300 dropouts from 1984-85 found motivation levels, not disciplinary history, most predictive. About two thirds ranked bottom quarter academically, yet 22 percent showed higher test ability. Many came from low income families and had parents who also dropped out.
Johnson & Johnson will stop producing Tylenol capsules following cyanide-linked deaths in 1982 and a Feb incident near New York City. The firm plans to replace capsules with caplets and will refund or replace existing capsules. FDA said action is the company’s business judgment and not industry guidance.
West Virginia House Finance Committee approved a budget bill to restore 20 million dollars in higher education funding, meet a 32 million dollar federal payment, and balance a deficit ridden budget by eliminating 343 state jobs and cutting Public Employees Retirement System support. The measure doubles as a tax free plan offering a 600 dollar annual across the board raise for state workers and teachers, with many vacancies in Human Services.
