Suspect recants false tip in Melvin Horst case
At Wooster Ohio on February 17 Charles Hannah first confessed that he and Earl Donald moved four year old Melvin Horst’s body from an initial burial in Hannah’s yard and threw it into Sugar Creek on January 4 1929. He later retracted after officials noted the creek was frozen. He claimed Donald dug up and moved the body, and that he accompanied him to the creek but not the disposal. The confession was made during a closed session with Wayne county officials.

Washington February 17 coalition of Senate Democrats and Republicans passed amendments to the Hawley-Smoot bill reducing aluminum duties to Underwood levels of 1918. Crude aluminum duties drop from 5 to 2 cents a pound, sheet aluminum from 9 to 3 1/2 cents, and aluminum utensils from 55 percent ad valorem to 25 percent.
