A 58 year old miner for Cannelton Coal Co died around 11 40 p m at the Superior Mine after being caught between a car and the mine top. Carl William Cox of Superior was a member of UMWA Local 6029. He was born in Cleveland Tennessee and survived by his widow Ruby Lou Officer Cox a daughter Gene Croughton two sons Douglas and Farris Cox three brothers Ennis Lloyd and Leon ard Cox and four grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were incomplete at Fanning Funeral Home in Welch.

Accidental shooting death of Mercer County man
State Police in Princeton ruled the Monday night fatal shooting of Charles Randall Mutterback, 24, accidental. Mutterback, an inspector for the State Department of Highways from Piedmont near Matoaka, was handling a .22 pistol outside his mother’s home when the gun discharged, apparently as he bumped the car while entering it. He died on arrival at Princeton Community Hospital.
