The Ocean Ranger, the world’s largest offshore rig, was feared sunk in a storm off Newfoundland with 84 aboard. Rescue crews found no survivors. at least 46 Americans believed missing among the Canadian crew. A formal inquiry and continued search were announced.

Two Die Two Die In Princeton Mishap At Hilltop Curve
A 30-year-old Princeton woman Carol Shelton and her 10-year-old daughter Nathisha Shelton died in a two vehicle crash at Hilltop Drive and Route 460 East. The mother was driving a 1977 Dodge Colt and pulled into the trucks path of Bobby Waltermyer of Troutdale Virginia. Waltermyer received minor injuries. Benjamin Shelton age eight was injured and transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for severe head injuries.
