Kansas star Wes Santee powered to a 4:04.9 indoor mile at Michigan State Gym in a Kansas Illinois Michigan State triangular meet. He clocked 60.5 seconds for the first quarter and 4:02.6 in a sprint-relay leg, with coach Easton confident he will break four minutes.
Tazewell County Warhawks led by Parker and Jackson rallied in the third quarter to defeat Slater of Bristol 53-47 on the home court. Parker and Jackson scored 20 and 17 points as Slater built early leads but fell behind late. Slater’s Davis and Brnsh paced their team with 21 and 19 points.
Concord College cagers with a 10 4 conference mark meet Beckley in Athens for their last home game of the season. Coach Joe Friedl’s Mountain Lions are unbeaten at home in nine games. Seniors Denver Lowe Bill Warden Franklin Smith and Bob Mickis play their final home appearance. The team beat Beckley 74 60 earlier. Tonight’s 6 30 junior varsity game precedes the main contest. Next they travel to Fairmont Friday and Salem Saturday.
Hurley overpowered Council 61 to 26 in the Buckhannon County tournament first round. Center Bill Mullin scored 26 for Hurley while Norman led Council with 10. Next round Thursday features Grundy vs Whitewood and Garden vs Hurley. In girls action Council beat Hurley 80 to 56 with E Tiller scoring 53 points.

His knockout of Bob Satterfield on national TV gave him the edge over Bob Cousey of the Boston Celtics. Neil Johnston led the league in scoring with Philadelphia and Dutch Harrison placed fourth. Willie Shoemaker finished fifth among 15 first place vote receivers.
In Kalamazoo, Marshall overcoming a 79 74 deficit with five minutes left, Walowac scoring 34 points to lift the Herd past Western Michigan 90 88. Morris, Corbett and Bradley contributed key plays as Marshall improves to 9 7 overall and 5 5 in the MAC. WMU ends 8 9, 3 4 in conference.
