Valentine Party Highlights OES Chapter Meeting
Bluefield Chapter 64, Order of Eastern Star held a large Valentine party at the Masonic temple with Miss Ruby Caldwell presiding as worthy matron. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Downing of Columbus, Ohio and Miss Florance Henderson of Fargo, N D. Plans were announced for a card party on February 24 in Appal Indian hall with reservations via Mrs. Chalmers Bailey. Prizes were awarded in several games including first prize to Mrs. Jimmy Lloyd and second to Mrs. Winnie Humphreys. Mrs. Charles Pace won for “Catching the Train” and Mrs. W. A. Grayson rose to national prominence as personal physician to Woodrow Wilson and served many presidents. He aided Red Cross appeals, helped Chinese war refugees, and influenced inaugural operations for FDR. A longtime Navy officer, he led the 1933 inaugural committee and maintained ties to Washington society and Democratic leadership. He also ran a Virginia breeding farm and raced thoroughbreds.
