Bluefield DOH Highway Commissioner Fred VanKirk defended Alternate I selection for the Easley Bridge project citing traffic service, costs and right of way impacts. He argued Alternate 4 is more circuitous, would cost public users about 440000 annually, costs 2.49 million more, and displaces four residences while Alternate 1 affects none. He noted time frames differ from the I-73/74 project and that combining the two plans is not necessarily feasible. The letter to Gov Underwood and local leaders summarized these points amid objections from local highway groups and residents.

Princeton WV police report a rollover on I 77 spared three children serious injury. Timothy DeShawn Rolan 20 of Detroit drove south and braked losing control near Ingleside Road as Chanel Rolan 8 David Banks 4 and Kenyatta Williams 16 were taken to Princeton Community Hospital in stable condition. Karen Banks 34 was not transported.
Florists report Valentine’s Day is the busiest day of the year with heavy orders for roses and gifts. Belinda Pendleton says 3,000 to 3,500 roses sold. Donna Grim notes at least 50 dozen. Graham Floral calls it as busy as or busier than Mother’s Day. Weather delays did not curb sales. Candles balloons and stuffed bears also popular with 50 to 60 gift orders at Tis the Seasons Inc.
