Salem Tigers outlast Glenville in overtime thriller

Salem, W V a. Salem Tigers beat Glenville State 89 to 85 in overtime after a 76 all tie at regulation. Harold Smith led Salem with 18 points while Clyde Brewer and Bill Maxwell paced Glenville with 20 and 16 respectively. Salem moves to 11-10 in league play. Glenville drops to 8-13.

Veteran Driver Hurt In Crash At Daytona International Speedway

Marvin Panch, a Daytona veteran and 1961 Daytona 500 winner, was injured in a high speed crash at the Daytona International Speedway. His Maserati powered by a Ford engine skidded, flipped, hit the guard rail, and burned. fellow drivers rescued him as he suffered first to third degree burns and internal injuries. DeWayne Lund, a 6 foot 5 inch, 75 pound driver from Cross SC, aided Panch and used a fire extinguisher on the wreckage. Panch had been clocked at over 163 mph in practice for the 50 mile Challenge Cup race scheduled for Saturday.
