Terran Woolley of Hutchinson filed for his 3 year old wire haired Vizsla Angus to run as a Republican in Kansas governor race after learning of teen candidates. State officials say a dog cannot serve as governor despite Angus being described as caring and humane.

Bluefield City Board approved first readings of ordinances to purchase three downtown buildings 405 Bland St 407 Bland St and 405 Raleigh St to create open space and expand Chicory Square. The Bland Street structures will be demolished while the Elks Building at 405 Raleigh St saved for its historical significance. The plan includes 65 parking spaces and aims to draw traffic to downtown.
Kara Dawn Keen, 29, of Bluefield Virginia, charged as the getaway driver in the February 8 armed robbery of First Community Bank in Bluewell. A handwriting match to a threatening note and other evidence led to probable cause for sending robbery and conspiracy charges to the Mercer County Grand Jury after a Tuesday preliminary hearing.
The West Virginia House approved 98 to 1 an amended SB 267 raising teachers by 2 percent the first year and 1 percent for three years and boosting state police and school service personnel by 2 percent the first year and 1 percent thereafter. The bill moves back to the Senate for concurrence with changes.
BLUEFIELD The Mercer County Board of Education unanimously accepted transfer of Mitchell Stadium ownership from the City of Bluefield. The move follows a recommendation by Superintendent Dr. Deborah S. Akers and is contingent on an agreement ensuring use of the stadium parking lot remains city owned.
