Henry L Ratliff 68 longtime Buchanan County resident and county game warden died suddenly Sunday night at his home near Davenporte following a heart attack. He was a farmer active in local politics and a Primitive Baptist church member. Survived by five sons Quin tin Henry Ira Paul Dallas and four daughters plus their spouses. Funeral by Rev Dave Blankenship at Hurst Scott funeral home Richlands then to the family residence for services.
Funeral services for James Henry Rosenheim age 60 a well known general contractor and longtime Bluefield resident will be held this afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran church at 2 oclock conducted by Rev Paul L Royer. Burial follows at Memorial mausoleum Monte Vista cemetery. The body lies at the residence after removal from Mercer Funeral Home and will be brought to the church one hour before services.
Mrs. Cora Alice Smith 64 wife of L G Smith of Eckman died after a long illness at home. Funeral at 2 pm Wednesday from Ekman Methodist church. Interment Woodlawn cemetery near Bramwell. Born Jonesville Va December 11 1885. Survived by husband three daughters three sons a sister and 20 grandchildren. Bennett Funeral Home Kimball in charge.
Jamison Unlce Jim Bailey died at home in Matoaka at 2 15 p m after a week's illness. He was 84 and son of the late Pierd Sylvia and a Mercer county farmer. He married Virginia Bailey in 1882, who preceded him in death five years ago. Survivors include eight sons and two daughters led by Thurman Levi Toil and Princeton Leann Bailey of Bernardsville New Jersey. General services will be held Wednesday at 2 p m at Matoaka Baptist Church with Revs Edgar Sigman and B H Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the family cemetery near Rock. The body will remain at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in Matoaka.
The Rev. L. R. Jordan of College Avenue Baptist Church learned after Sunday service that his father J. F. Jordan died at his home on KXKdlder Street in Wilmington North Carolina. The elder Jordan, retired for years due to a heart condition, died unexpectedly. The minister and Mrs. Jordan left by car for Wilmington immediately afterward.
William G. Whitt 79 a lifelong Tazewell county resident and retired farmer died at his Dry Fork home after a two month illness. He was survived by five children, 25 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild, with a brother and two sisters. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Dry Fork residence with the Rev Fielden Mitchell and Rev Stuart Owens officiating. interment in Pruett cemetery.
Mrs Barbara Ellen Keene 70 born Buchanan County daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Henry Horne. Survived by former husband Parley Horne and two daughters Smitey Fleming Horne Whitewood. Body moved from Hurst Scott Funeral Home Richlands to residence for funeral rites at 10 p m Rev Grat Horton Raven Va will officiate. Interment in family cemetery.
Mrs. Street, born in Buchanan county, Virginia, widow of late Mr. Barry, died from a heart condition. Survived by husband and children Mrs. Carrie Whited and Mrs. Letha Mullens of Whitewood Kell Street Rowe Va. Funeral at Street cemetery Garden Creek at 11 this morning if weather permits. otherwise from the home. Rev. Coy Childress to officiate.
Mrs Nancy Hilton of Skaggs Virginia age 66 died at home after a lengthy illness. Wife of J D Hilton she was born in Buchanan County Virginia to the late William and Vicle Childress. Survived by husband two daughters Mrs Bud Collins and Mrs John Vance four sons Lige Delmer Jesse Lonnie two sisters and two brothers. Funeral arrangements set for Wednesday at 11 at Skaggs with Rev John Childress officiating burial in McGlothlin cemetery.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 this morning at the family home for William H. Looney, 82, a Harman Virginia farmer who died Sunday after several weeks of illness. Reverends John Hess and Bascom Bailey officiated.
Sam Easley Williams, 63, an employee of the Pocahontas coal company, died suddenly at his home in Jenkin Jones last evening about 6 30. Death was believed caused by a heart attack. The body will remain at Pocahontas Union funeral home pending completion of funeral rites.
Huntington police say Hayden Brickey and Dennis Pauley admitted three armed robberies and multiple burglaries including four break ins at Ward Donut shops. They also confessed to ransacking Oley and Cammack junior high schools, the Fifth Avenue Baptist church, and a Westmoreland theater. No hearing set yet.
Lawrence Roberts and Eltrue Blevins of Litwar were jailed in Welch West Virginia on a breaking and entering charge. State Troopers Line and Thompson and Deputy Vance arrested them for robbing the Litwar Cash Grocery, with about 350 dollars in merchandise stolen including cigarettes candy and clothing.
Claude Meadows, 34, of Blackie Virginia, expected to post a $2500 bond today after the Sunday shooting death of Marvin Vance in Knox Creek district. Vance, 29, was struck three times with a .25 caliber automatic and died minutes later after an argument linked to alimony testimony in a case involving Vance’s sister. Vance's funeral services were set for 1 p.m. at his mother's home with burial in Paynesville.

Kanawha county coal miner Clarence B. Hedrick 42 of Putney received three years probation for moonshining to support his family of nine. Eight other miners also placed on probation for similar offenses include Harry Elswick Festa Gay Earl Garrett Roy Estep Ival Estep Herb Adkins Luther Winston Wilbur Miller Theodore Mitchell Charles Dorton and Clarence Pennell.
Orville Moore 38 of Newhall held in McDowell county jail Welch after failing to post bond for grand jury on unlawful wounding in the shooting of state liquor control agent Arthur Jones 40 of Athens. Moore admitted the shooting and ownership of a moonshine still. Police said Jones was blinded and shot as agents investigated a hollow near Newhall. Moore is father of 11.
The local recruiting station announced three enlistments yesterday two into the Army and one into the Air Force. Woodrow E Kahle from Montcalm joins the Third Armored Division at Fort Knox Kentucky James A Carter from Bluefield is sent to the 9th Infantry Division at Fort Dix New Jersey Bobby W Perkins from Bluefield enlists in the Air Force and goes to Lackland Air Force Base Texas for basic training. Vacancies remain in the Air Force applications available at the Perry building on Bland Street.
Last night at Municipal Court Judge James H. Martin disposed of a number of cases including 16 drunk charges and several motor vehicle violations. Cordelia Sherman of Bluefield Virginia faced two counts destroying property and driving drunk, forfeiting 151 dollars on the drunk driving charge and 26 dollars on the destruction charge. Benjamin Lowe of 3022 Bluefield Avenue forfeited 11 dollars on a speeding charge. Jack Richardson of 206 Lynn Street had a 7.50 dollar fine suspended for running a red light.

Welch West Virginia February 13 Otis E St Clair Welch attorney has been appointed United States commissioner for the Southern West Virginia district He succeeds Jack Marinari who resigned to become prosecuting attorney of McDowell county The appointment came from Federal Judge Ben Moore.

Mrs Mattie L Morgan also submitted bids for adjacent parcels along Howard and Guyandotte avenues, with one bid at 50000 dollars for a 150 foot frontage along Howard avenue, while other details note remaining land availability and site requirements.
