Man Arrests After Attempt To Cash Hidden Check Ruse
Joe Bryant and Norman Harvey with Harvey's wife were arrested after Bryant tried to cash a $17,000 check left in a tree slump at Roanoke Virginia. Police had faced a $50,000 Lindbergh kidnapping demand that was reduced to 17,000. Bryant says he simply found the stamp and happened to pass by.

Appalachian Drivers Hold Safety Meeting
All employees of Appalachian Electric Power company Bluefield and vicinity who operate vehicles attended a traffic safety meeting last Friday. The program stressed careful driving and the appearance of company equipment. About ninety five people attended and were invited to join the Bluefield chamber of commerce effort to make streets safer for pedestrians and drivers. Present were Bluefield Telephone drivers and safety official J. Sculler. G. Callahan chaired. talks by Herbert Markle J. P. Gills H. Shedd J. P. Jones and Ray Evans of the Citizens’ Underwriters Association highlighted traffic mishaps and jaywalking and the need to report incidents.

Two Men Arrested on Possession of Liquor
Homer L. Blackburn and Leonard A. Harris, residents of Bluefield, were arrested by city police and federal agents on charges of possessing one and a half gallons of whiskey. The men were taken from an automobile on Commerce street and the car seized. A preliminary hearing will be before U S Commissioner Thomas Boatt.

Roanokers Win Fight for Bail in Lindbergh Case
Roanoke, Va February hearing for three young defendants in the Lindbergh extortion plot was postponed to Saturday to allow more handwriting samples to be studied. Bonds were lowered but still high, with Joe Bryant and Norman Harvey facing 5000 and 7500 dollars respectively. Elsie Harvey, Norman's wife, had a 5000 dollar surety renewed.
