Bluefield’s Easley Bridge along U S 52 developed a more than foot long opening in the southbound lane at about 11 30 A M Saturday. Investigators say the cavity sits about four square feet in the bridge base with no injuries or property damage reported.
Chelsi Smith, 21, education major at San Jacinto Junior College, was crowned Miss USA by Lu Parker. She pledged to teach children about racism. Smith won swimsuit and interview segments and will receive 207000 dollars in cash and prizes. She will compete in Miss Universe in Windhoek, Namibia. First runner up Shanna Lynn Moakler, 19, from New York City. Second runner up Nicole Lynn Holmes, 20, from Marion Indiana, a junior at Southern Illinois University.
