The UMWA will auction former Cadillac limousines used by W A Boyle J Owens and G Titler to members via sealed bids sent to Secretary Treasurer Harry Patrick. Bids open March 15 with sale to the highest bid over wholesale price. proceeds go to the UMWA treasury.
Kissinger began four days of talks with North Vietnamese leaders in Hanoi as the Viet Cong and Hanoi identified 142 prisoners to be freed Monday under the cease fire. Of the 142, 19 military and eight civilians go to South Vietnam. 115 to be released in Hanoi and flown to Clark Air Base Philippines.
An explosion collapsed an eight story gas storage tank on Staten Island injuring no one outside the cone. Fire officials fear 43 workers are buried beneath debris inside the empty tank as flames and acrid smoke hinder rescue efforts. The tank owned by Texas Eastern Cryogenic sits on 53 acres near New Jersey.
Mills E. Godwin Jr., Virginia governor from 1966 to 1970, announced he will seek the office again in 1973. He did not specify running as independent or Republican, leaving open whether he will seek the GOP nomination or run without party labels. Howell, Lt. Gov. Henry Howell Jr., had previously announced his candidacy and may oppose Godwin as an independent or Democrat.
Vice President Spiro T. Agnew told President Nixon at the Western White House he found an Asian desire to help make the postwar peace in Indochina lasting. Nixon called the mission important for building a peace structure in Southeast Asia. The two men met after Agnew’s 13 day eight nation tour and 12 hour talks.
The Defense and State Department notified families that 142 U S prisoners will be released Monday. Civilians among them include eight held by Communists in South Vietnam. Reunions sparked shopping plans, chili dinners, and worries about delayed letters.

Dr. James Riley Gatherum of Athens dies Saturday morning at Bluefield Sanitarium after a brief illness. Born July 10, 1913, he studied at Concord College, earned a M D from the Medical College of Virginia in 1945, served in the Army Medical Corps, and practiced in Richwood, Athens, and Pocahontas before returning to Bluefield as a house physician.
