President Nixon stated at an unannounced news conference that the United States would make no more concessions in Vietnam peace talks unless Hanoi demonstrates serious negotiating intent. He announced plans to visit Communist China next week, framing talks as a dialogue at a beginning.
President Thieu declared that South Vietnam will make no further concessions despite Rogers flexibility. He criticized Rogers as violating Vietnamese sovereignty and said he would discuss with President Nixon. The eight point plan calls for cease fire, elections, and Thieu's resignation before voting.
President Nixon says no further concessions in Indochina negotiations until the enemy shows genuine willingness to negotiate. The Ad Hoc Committee on Prison Reform says the West Virginia Penitentiary at Moundsville is “ready to explode” after a week-long inmate strike in a letter to Gov. Arch Moore Jr. The note appears in Page 1.
Police report a violent family dispute in Yukon Thursday morning resulted in one fatality and another person wounded. A Mercer McDowell and Wyoming Counties Mental Health Clinic psychologist at Princeton resigned this week in a sudden move authorities said Thursday.

A group calling itself Ad Hoc letters Gov Moore claiming Moundsville prison is ready to explode amid post strike unrest. The inmates protest guard abuse and 400 inmates allegedly signed a petition. warden says no such petition exists and most inmates have returned to work.
Belfast reports show British officials predicting heightened IRA guerrilla activity with better weapons and greater expertise. They cite retraining steps, a shift to heavier arms, and fewer but less sophisticated bombings as authorities warn of possible international exploitation and rising violence.
Cecil Hagerman was killed by a shotgun blast at about 1 a.m. His wife was wounded in the shoulder, and son‑in‑law Parker Pendry was arrested near Bradshaw by deputy Ed Harman and charged with murder. Pendry carried a 12‑gauge shotgun. investigators Harman and D J Meadows pursued the case with Donna Creel and Della Pendry on the scene.
The Price Commission ordered a temporary nationwide freeze on rates charged by private utilities. Four days of public hearings will be held to sharpen rate rules, with the freeze lasting until March 10 unless ended sooner. Publicly owned utilities are exempt. A rollback of a $160 million New York Telephone Co. rate increase, challenged in court, is ordered due to its large economic impact.
