A fractured game report shows Beckley edging Sungeen 32 to 50 after a tense fourth quarter. Davis and Lee lead Beckley with key rebounds and defense as the clock winds down and the final score settles in.
Charlie Brown led Owls with 16 points as Big Creek walloped Gary Coaldiggers 70 32 on Gary floor. Little Hal Edwards scored 10 and Merrill Gainer used substitutions in the fourth as Owls remained unbeaten in 15 starts and ranked top in the area.

George King scored 27 points as Morris Harvey fell to Fairmont but became the all time leading scorer in West Virginia college basketball with 2181 points. He surpassed John Abramovic 2161 and trails national four year and single season marks set by Abramovic and Delong with several games left.
McComas Panthers toppled Herndon 54 to 38 as George Chudina led with 20 points and Squirt Phillips added 14. McComas built an early lead and maintained it, outscoring Herndon throughout the game at Herndon High School.
Martinsburg and Charleston area teams posted tight wins and high scoring games. Notable results include Martinsburg 41 Frederick Md 39 and Charleston 34 St Albans 62 Dunbar 64, with many other pairings such as Parkersburg Sumner 57, Dunbar Fairmont 44 and Wayne 39 Buffalo 28.
Eastern's maroons beat Marshall college 71 to 55 as Chuck Mrazovich scored 25 and Joe Harper 19. Wright led Marshall with 15 while Eastern built a nine to ten point second half lead after a tight first half. The win improves Eastern to 11 6. Marshall falls to 13 6.
Jaeger Cubs rolled to a 58 41 win over Pineville Minutemen on Jaeger court. Thurman Peters led the Cubs with 23 points while Pineville’s Jack Street scored 11 points. Pineville only outscored Jaeger in the final period against reserves.
Virginia Tech routs Richmond 74 to 39 in Blues Armory as Sayre Farrar Sprahan and Whitmore star for the Hokies in a Southern Conference game. Hokies lead 35 19 at halftime and pull away in the second half.
Bluefield College faces Beckley in a nonconference matchup while Ceredo Kenova meets Mullens in another high school basketball pairing tonight. Neither game provides postseason implications.
Tazewell Bulldogs rally to defeat Graham High 51 to 47 in overtime after trailing through the regul ar game. Leading scorers include Collins with 19 and Roy McGrady with 15 as Graham’s late surge stalls. The girls’ preliminary featured a 64-48 Graham G-Girls win.
Grundy Golden Wave of Grundy edged Feds Creek Kentucky 33 to 32 behind a big third quarter led by Clevinger at center for injured Frank Smith. Griffith led the losers with 10 points. Perrine scored nine for Grundy. The Grundy girls beat Saeger 61 to 24 beforehand.
Dennis Boyd scored 27 points guiding Welch Maroon Wave to a 76 64 win over Ceredo Kenova in a fast paced game. Five players fouled out as Welch edged ahead after halftime and controlled the final period. Scotty Hamilton set up Jimmy Rich while Rich fouled out late in the third.
Elkhorn Elks defeated Park Central 48 to 42 in a McDowell county game. Park Central led early before the Elks staged a thunderous rally to erase the margin and secure the win. Nance, Penny, and Smith led Elks with double figure scoring as Park Central fell short in a close finish.
Ish Bennett extended his season total to 336 points as Northfork Big Orange defeated Elkhorn Indians 67 43. Bennett led with 28 points while Jennines Boyd added 18 and Dan Lafon scored 10 for the winners.
Al Ketchell, a former boxing great, owns and trains a three-horse stable based at Hialeah Park for the winter racing season.
Mullens overwhelmed Stoco High 86 to 48 as captain Frank Wyee and Buzz Basham missed the game due to illness. Mullens led 25-13 after the first quarter and 51-34 at halftime. McGlothin led Mullens with ten points while Rusisill top-scored for Stoco Juniors with eight. Stoco’s varsity Tally marked by eight losses in thirteen starts.
