The Y W C A reports efforts to raise funds for the annual budget and notes team captains will meet to report progress. Civic minded residents who have not yet donated are urged to call the Y quarters at 1430 or contact any team captain.
The Bluefield Quota club will hold its annual dinner at six eighty this evening in the West Virginian hotel. New officers for the year will be unveiled and an interesting program arranged for members and guests. Invitations have been sent to the presidents of other Bluefield civic clubs and their members.
Circle 8 at the Lutheran church met Wednesday afternoon at the parish house with Mrs. Charles Pace and Mrs. Totten as joint hostesses. Fifteen members and three visitors attended. Mrs. Totten led the devotional. Mrs. J.L. D. Francis was appointed secretary-treasurer. The gathering began with a hymn and closed with light refreshments.

Under the Guild of Christ Episcopal church, the Episcopal Guild sponsored an afternoon tea at Dr and Mrs O Rogers Oakhurst avenue. Mrs Rogers presided as hostess with decor and a program by Blofield artists including Miss Bally Lits Miss Marion Smith and James Himer Brown. Colonial costumes, readings, period dances, and a large American flag on the porch enhanced the event with refreshments served by Mrs J Francke For and others.

The Ahavath Sholem Sisterhood held a regular Wednesday evening meeting at Mrs. Jerome Katz’s North Street home. President Mrs. Sam Shaman presided, minutes were read by Mrs. Harry Clark, and reports from committees followed. An evening program included current events, a comparison of New Testament and Talead quotes, and remarks by Mrs. Abe Schlossberg.

A party from Bluefield led by associate secretary Misa Destr Gil Mora departs today for Roanoke to attend the Virginia Youth conference opening this evening and running through Sunday noon. The group includes many local members and sponsors from Bluefield Princeton Welch and Welch, with additional boys participating.

The Alaska Terry circle met Tuesday at 7 30 p m with nineteen members and four visitors. Mrs S R Thompson led a devotional on Life's Supreme Objective, prayers by Mrs W DeBrick, a Mary Porter Home From College leaflet in playlet form, and contributions from Mrs Ernest Shumaker World Outlook article. Committee reports followed, and the group closed with sentence prayers and benediction during a social hour with refreshments.
The Christian Endeavor society of the First Presbyterian church presents the three act drama The Little Clodhopper by Walter Ben Hare at Heaver Auditorium at 8 PM. Mrs S E Hudgine directs a cast including Septimus Green Phil Clark Ocey Gump Georgia Chiggerton Mrs Chitterton Mrs Chigger Bean Sally Richardson Charmain Cater Judy Norma Lee Davis and Clara Davis etc with solos by Virginia Bivens and readings by Alice Porterfield as specialty numbers.
The Fidella Sunday School class of First Baptist Church will hold its monthly meeting at 2 30 PM at the home of Mrs M G Creswell on Princeton Avenue Attendance is urged.
Mrs Annie D Woolwine leads a party of about twenty five from Bluefield by train 28 to attend the inauguration of Franklin D Roosevelt as U S President on March 4 in Washington. The group includes Mrs Hatcher Mrs Bates Mrs Wilson and many others with relatives and friends slated to witness the ceremonies. The entourage will travel aboard a special coach and depart in the evening of March 2.
Prayer services underway with a 2:30 PM session at 360 Tyler Street led by Mrs. Maude Belcher. Topic: God and Sinners What Must I Do To Be Saved. This wraps up the week long revival. 23 attended the McMullin home meeting with Mrs. Harvey Baker Smith presiding, topic Jesus Teaches Sincerity. Mrs. Rudder and Mrs. Jackson sang Savior Like a Shepherd in a closing solo.

Grace Methodist Church hosted a well attended home coming social despite bad weather. Mrs Don Shelton wrote and directed a nostalgic living room scene with Grandma and family members portrayed by a group including Mrs Woodyard Mrs Walker and Miss Bowles. The performance featured improvised picture vignettes and tributes read by Mrs Debrick with music by Mrs Woodyard.
A neighborhood program highlighted by readings and touching songs enhanced by pictures from the family album. Mrs Hicka, Sunday school superintendent, welcomed members and visitors after the play while old-time songs played on a graphophone. Refreshments of punch and cookies were served by Mrs Carter and Mrs Wilburn assisted by Miss Carter and Mrs Gawthrop.
Tri-District Young People's union will meet at 7 30 this evening at Bland Street Methodist church. Plans aim to boost youth revival with hopes for full representation. The event is to be observed as Nickel Night though visitors are not admitted. EB Lasenby Memorial Avenue influenza case noted. Mrs 0 V Hefner returns from Atlanta after visiting son Dr Ralph Hefner and Mrs Hefner. Cecil Hefner, recently in San Antonio, heads to Chicago with United Airlines. Mr and Mrs HB Powers and daughters Virginia and Brodyn return to Place, Va after funeral of Mrs Powers mother Elisabeth Chanfre. Mrs L S Layne and Mrs Hi Kendrick return from Salem Va where they were summoned by death of their father Judge L B Allen. Funeral greetings were held in Salem Wednesday afternoon.
The Business Women's circle met last evening at Mrs. Bob Wilson’s home on Stow era Street with Mrs. Wilson and Miss Ima Smith co hosting. President Mrs. Rutherliland led the meeting and Miss Loudermilk headed the program on The Influence of the Word in the Homeland with Miss Shirlay Goff Mrs. Clark Brown and Mrs. Alice Zimmermean participating. Despite bad weather a large attendance heard from Miss Bonnie Ray missionary at Pingtu China via letter and enjoyed a Valentine themed social with relevant decorations.
H R Bishop returned Thursday afternoon from a business trip to Norton Virginia. Alfred Abbott is spending time with home folk at Appomattox and Miss Elizabeth Huttard will return Saturday to New York with her mother Mrs S N Huttard for about six weeks. Mr and Mrs Charles Mundy and daughter Rally Ann of Radford visit Mrs Mundy’s parents Mr and Mrs A H Hook. Miss Lena Morrie j e of influenza at her Albemarle street home. Mrs W J Hutton patient at Ricefield sanitarium is reported renting.
In Bluefield on a frigid Wednesday night two Central Station firemen, land Carter and Walter Echols, faced freezing winds as they responded to a Cumberland Road alarm. The men endured considerable pain as the bitter air froze exposed ears and noses during the night.
The many friends of J. T. Thornton, head of the Thornton Laird company, will be glad to learn that he is showing marked progress at the Bluefield sanitarium where he recently underwent a serious operation for appendicitis.
