Warrants issued for legislators ignite a fight forecast as peace talks collapse. Plans to deploy the sergeant at arms target absentee members and compel attendance while London is cited for possible military backing if authority is acknowledged.
London Kentucky February 8 a bloody outbreak is feared as warrants are issued for the arrest of absentee Democratic members of the legislature. It is regarded as certain that a fight will occur when warrants are served.
Frankfort Kentucky February 8 1900 The funeral of Senator Goebel drew fifteen thousand mourners while lawmakers faced arrest threats. Governor Taylor's office closed and guarded. legislature met in executive session with no quorum. Plans targeted to arrest thirteen house and six senate members to restore quorum. Military may be deployed if lawmakers refuse authority.
In Cincinnati on February 8 ex Governor W O Bradley, Taylor's leading attorney, filed seven injunctions in the Kentucky gubernatorial contest with the federal court. The move seeks to restrain the legislature from challenging officials the election board declared elected. Reports say peace negotiations are off and Taylor aims to retain his position with military support amid delays over the Louisville peace talks.
The agreement is viewed as a delay tactic to file the injunction. Governor Taylor decided not to sign the Louisville settlement once its terms were disclosed.
Louisville Feb 8 Democratic lawmakers met at the Fifth Avenue Hotel awaiting a possible quorum. No member planned a Frankfort trip for Goebel's funeral, but alarms about arrest from London altered plans. Only Rep Orr traveled to attend. Sen Carter cited a London report warning arrest if they went to Frankfort.
Governor Taylor will not sign the Louisville peace agreement in its current form. An official dispatch from Spearman's Camp reports General Buller maintains his position and relief for Lady Smith is certain. The notice comes from Buller’s headquarters and is dated today in London.

British casualties till Tuesday noon were 238, with reports of renewed fighting at Vaal Krane. General Buller telegraphed the War Office that British losses at Potgesters Drift until Tuesday noon reached about 333.
The Boer attack on Per Holk yesterday proved a feint. The main assault targeted Sterkstrom with three guns as British forces held. General Gatacre sent reinforcements, the Boers retreated, and British cavalry pursued.
Secretary Long said no duty for Admiral Dewey would be assigned under the Navy Department. Dewey remains busy with Philippine Commission work and private correspondence, taking a respite this week, and is expected back in Washington tomorrow.
