Hepburn Dies After Long Illness Former Congress Leader
Clarinda Iowa Feb 7 Colonel William Peters Hepburn a former congressman from the eighth district died after a long illness from kidney and heart trouble. He served in Civil War and later framed the Hepburn law the pure food act and related measures and was known for his rail and commerce reform efforts. He was born 1833 in Columbiana County Ohio and practiced law in Iowa City. He moved to Clarinda in 1876 and represented Iowa for decades including service as Harrison era solicitor of the treasury. He died at home after a life of public service and legal work.
