John Wolford of Pikeville Kentucky tried to kill himself with two stab wounds in Huntington after failing a naval service exam. He drifted into despondency and, as a woman grabbed his arm in a crowded street, he attempted a third stab before being stopped. He was taken to hospital and his condition was critical.

Death of Harry Adams in Vivian at 82
The death of Harry Adams occurred at his home in Vivian on Sunday at 11 a.m. after a period of illness with complications and a recent pneumonia. A native of Pennsylvania, he had moved from Minersville to the coal field a few months ago and served as mine foreman for Bottom Creek Coal and Coke Company. He is survived by a wife and two children aged eight and eleven. J. W. Luther of Welch Furniture Company embalmed the body for burial and it was shipped to Minersville, Pa. for interment on Tuesday.
