Phoenix guard Paul Westphal scored a season high 32 points and rookie Ron Lee added a career best 30 as the Suns defeated Denver 115-104 in Phoenix Sunday afternoon. Denver's players included Jones Thompson Issel McClain and Price.
Al Skinner delivered a key 30 second bucket and Bubbles Hawkins scored 37 as the New York Nets defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 94 to 90. Nets leaders included Hawkins and Skinner while Cleveland athletes featured Chones and Smith among others.
Bruce Lietzke captured the Hawaiian Open in Honolulu by three strokes at Waialae CC finishing 15 under par 273. Don January, undone by a double bogey on 17, tied for second with Takashi Murakami at 276 as Lietzke bagged $48,000 and became the season's first $100,000 winner.
Fairmont State holds off Morris Harvey 56 54 at Charleston Civic Center to clinch a likely fifth straight West Virginia Conference regular season title. Davey Moore scores 20 and James Johnston 11 as Fairmont improves to 13 1 in the league while Morris Harvey falls to 9 7.
