Rep Daniel A Reed of New York will speak at the Pocahontas Chamber of Commerce annual banquet at West Virginian Hotel Friday night February 25. Mountain Lake road survey and Pembroke notes

Engineers from the state Highway department surveyed the Mountain Lake road from its intersection with highway 8 to Mo. Lake with minimal changes planned. A $50,000 highway allotment was approved for this segment, located five miles east of Pembroke. The Pembroke high school building progress is noted as advancing well. Funeral services were held for J. M. Kelly, 83, who died of pneumonia, with survivors listed across several towns. Numerous social notices mention visits, travel, and illnesses among Pembroke residents and guests.

Mrs V A Nelson and daughter Mary Louise spent last week with relatives at Jenkin Jones and Anawalt. Mrs J Frank Daniel remains ill at home. Mrs Grace Jennings and daughter Philips visited relatives at Princeton last week. W A Nelson and Stewart Bowman were business visitors to Welch Wednesday. Mrs C B Daniel and daughter Agnes, previously ill, are much improved. Mrs T K Shrader and Mr and Mrs Fred Farmer were guests of Mr and Mrs Sam Nunley of Leckle Sunday. Miss Sallie Helvey spent weekend at Stowersville. Mr and Mrs R A Rucker hosted a card party Saturday evening. Mr and Mrs Fred Simpkins were called to Roanoke Wednesday for funeral of Mr Simpkins brother-in-law J W Sexton. Death occurred in the General Hospital Tuesday morning. Mr and Mrs Bill Walters of Hicksville were guests in the home of Mr and Mrs K R A Rucker Sunday. Mrs Emma Turner left Friday for extended visit with her son in Columbus Ohio.

Brookshere Morris Wedding in Yards Virginia

Sylvia Morris of Yards Virginia married Ned Brookshere of Lenore North Carolina in a simple ceremony at Tagewell Baptist Church January 31 with Rev William B Jones officiating. Brookshere works for Ford Motor Sales in Lenore and the couple will reside there. Also noted is little Joyce Arline Page recovering from tonsil surgery at Bluefield sanitarium and the move of Mr and Mrs Pete Crockett to Eckman.
