Mercer draft board No 3 covers East River Plymouth and Jumping Branch district and has 34 men in class 1-A ready for selective service calls. Twenty five are volunteers with nine already gone to camp.
Knob junior high defeated Mercer 26 to 19 to capture the city junior high tournament title in the high school gym finale. Walthall scored 12 for Knob, while Draper led Mercer with six. Knob led 8-4 after one quarter and 12-12 at halftime.
Hal Harman district game protector said no bounty exists on gray foxes in East River Rock and Beaver Pond districts. The conservation commission and fox hunters agreed years ago, Mercer Fox and Game Protective Association and others had complained county payments were made for gray foxes.
Twenty seven persons were committed to the county jail over the week end eleven by city police and sixteen by county state and district officers. Con stable J B Boyd and Deputy Sheriff Alvin Hedrick brought in eleven persons from Rock district. All the accused were charged with misdemeanors.
The Mercer P T A meeting set for tonight is postponed to next Tuesday at 7 30 o'clock. A Founders program will be presented at the session.
A nine pound baby boy named Gordon Brent Kyle was born Sunday February 2 to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon M. Kyle of Donora Pennsylvania. Mrs Kyle formerly Miss Reena Carr of this city.
The Board of Directors of Goodwill Center will meet this morning at 10 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Arnold Crotty on Highland Avenue.
The Choral department will meet Wednesday at 7 30 in the Memorial building for practice. All members are expected to be present.
The will of William A. Allen of Bluefield dated November 2, 1940 was probated in the county clerk's office. Mary Allen, named executrix, qualified without bond. Appraisers named were E. D. Thomas, E. R. Cowling, and Robert Ramage.

An oyster stew and other refreshments will be served after the meeting of Princeton Post 54 The American Legion tonight at the Memorial building. The post now has 107 members, only nine short of the year’s quota.

Circuit judge D M Easley entered an order confirming a $500 settlement for R J Belcher as guardian for Edison Belcher the infant against Amere Gas Utilities Co and Willard Johnson. All Edison injury claims released while negligence was denied. Edison suffered a fractured skull in a Princeton crash that killed Frank Belcher and injured others. Frank Belcher's claim was settled out of court.
Charleston report shows 5,036 new influenza cases in the week to February 1, down from 13,565 the prior week. Eleven counties were omitted from the latest health department tally.
W E Whitt 61 died after an operation for ruptured appendix and peritonitis. Born December 26 1879 in Pliny West Virginia he came to Princeton in 1913. He married Hattie Hetherington in 1915 who died in 1926. Survived by son Joseph daughter Julia one grandchild and several siblings. Funeral today at 10 at First Methodist with Rev Kelso presiding.

A head on collision on the Premier Roder field highway west of Premier killed Elmer Childers 26 of Ashcamp and Collie Van 50 of Omar. Six others were injured including Cora Coffman 42 Henry Hairston 42 and Rose Van 70. Officials said Childers may have tried to pass a car before impact.
A Glen Hatfield Motor Co. car caught fire en route to a used car lot near Coney Island yesterday. Welch fire truck extinguished the blaze. Chief Hartinger estimates damage at 50 dollars. Hostess Elva Dyer, Bartley, among others, will serve at the All-Club dance at Ward Belmont School in Nashville on February evening.

Mr and Mrs Thornton Berry returned to Welch late Sunday after a Florida vacation. Mrs Nellie Ruble, long in Cincinnati, has arrived in Welch to live with her sister Mrs John Davis and Dr Davis on Summers Street. Mrs Mae Dempkey and daughter Evelyn visited Beckley on Sunday to see their daughter.
The Welch Parent Teachers Association will hold its monthly meeting this afternoon at the high school auditorium. It begins at 3:00 with a Question Box for parents to submit queries about the P T A or the school and discussion by association officers.
Gary High School likely remains closed for another week due to a scarlet fever outbreak in the community. The quarantine for Gary No 7 8 and 9 was lifted and students may return to Elbert Filbert school as no new cases have appeared there for two weeks.
