Frederick Steiner former Oregon soldier senator will be buried Monday in Arlington National Cemetery Virginia with full military honors. He resigned from the Senate early in 1938 after a dispute over the Republican national convention. Steiner served as a first lieutenant commanding an artillery unit in World War I and saw action on many French fronts. He delivered the keynote address at the Republican convention.

San Francisco February 3 The 27 year marriage of Tom and Rena Mooney collapsed with Mrs Mooney charging he demanded a divorce and Mooney denying it claiming enemies publicized the split to discredit him He had been pardoned last month after 22 years in prison for the 1916 preparedness parade bombing Mrs Mooney 61 said she fought for his freedom and would oppose a divorce noting they have been through too much to end it.
Floods driven by two days of heavy rain push rivers over banks across central and southern West Virginia. Four drownings reported in Boone County and Lincoln County deaths tied to a landslide and gas explosion. Thousands displaced as rivers rise and roads reopen as crews coordinate Red Cross and state agencies under Governor Holt.
Violent rain and snow caused floods across the Ohio Valley with a death list at least. Weather officials warned stages from 50 to 55 feet for 250 miles from Huntington West Virginia to Carrollton Kentucky and 43 to 44 feet between Evansville Indiana and Cairo. Roads were blocked from Charleston to Gauley Bridge as Bell Creek and landslides halted U S 60, U S 119, and state routes 2 3 4 16 31 47 52 60 119 219 and 250. Flooding surged along the Elk Tygart and Little Kanawha rivers disrupting travel near Weston Buckhannon Huntington and Clarksburg.
