Funeral services for D H Harman Jr who died Saturday in Welch were conducted in Tazewell yesterday at one o clock. Rev R A Kelly of Tazewell and Rev W C Wade of Welch led the ceremony before the burial at the new cemetery amid a large crowd with pallbearers named from Bluefield Welch and Weley.
George and John Jones were found guilty of second degree murder in the killing of John G. Watts in Tazewell county court. Each was sentenced to ten years in the Virginia penitentiary while their father William Jones was acquitted on the same indictment.

Sidney Wood a colored brakeman was dragged under yard wheels while dropping cars. The brake rod broke causing him to fall and be caught between the brake shaft and shoe. Jehnnie Melcher a yard clerk stopped the car with a heavy iron bar, preventing worse harm. Wood suffered head bruises and chest injuries but doctors expect no serious outcome.
A marriage license was issued yesterday to J. M. Payne and Bertha J. Hatcher. Geo. L. Karnes, a member of the health board, went to Athens yesterday to check a smallpox case involving a young male Normal School student with other exposures at the location. J. T. Johnson visited Bluefield yesterday. J. M. McGrath attends McDowell criminal court amid the Foley murder trial. Citizens largely follow the health board’s vaccination advice.
