A 15 month old boy, Jimmy Martin, died in a Big Stone Gap Wise County house fire. Firemen found him in his bedroom after flames trapped him while his father, 21, tried to rescue him. Officials believe the blaze started from an overheated flue.
Dennis Wurschmidt a 12 year old Willows Boy Scout missing seven days was found dead in Grindstone Canyon Mendocino National Forest. Sheriff Lyle Sale said searchers from Alder Springs found the body this morning away from his last sighting during a snowbound search that involved up to 400 people. The boy disappeared January 25 while running with a flag during his first outdoor camping trip as a blizzard dropped up to three feet of snow and a large hunt with bloodhounds planes helicopters and snow Weasels followed. His parents Mr and Mrs Gervis Warschmidt were at Alder Creek search headquarters when the body was found.
Heavy snowfall from Bluefield to surrounding areas forced school closures in Mercer County and Tazewell County Virginia. Official snowfall in Bluefield reached seven inches by Sunday night with drifts near ten inches and more snow forecast.

Two Pulaski men Curtiss M. Duncan 33 and Dewey L. Andrews 24 were killed in a head on collision with a tractor trailer on State Route 100 near the Wythe County line in Virginia. Truck driver Bobby Gene Childress of Toledo Ohio was not charged. Funerals set for Duncan Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Pulaski and Andrews at 1 p.m. in Pulaski with burial in Highland Memory Garden and Oakwood Cemetery. Strickler Funeral Home overseeing arrangements. Two private planes collided in the Santa Ana canyon east of Fullerton California killing five people. One wreck contained two men a woman and a child and a wallet with the name Philip Kastman Los Angeles a securities dealer. The other plane burned beyond identification.
Paducah Kentucky February news reports a massive manhunt for two gunmen who abducted Missouri state trooper William Little and forced a car theft. Little urged hostages protection via radio, while authorities expanded roadblocks across a 50 mile area including Kentucky Illinois and Tennessee. Suspects Harold W. Davis and Carl F. Burton are named as California residents linked to the crime and charged by the FBI with kidnapping and interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle.
Investigators from the Air Force and Navy probe a mid air collision that killed 48 people near Norwalk California. The crash involved a C118 transport and a Navy Neptune bomber raining wreckage across streets and a sheriff substation yard. Two Navy crewmen survived while a housewife Edith Hernandez 23 died decapitated after running from her home.
