Robert Mais and Walter Legenza were executed in the Virginia electric chair for the March 9 robbery and murder of E M Huband. Peg Austin of Brush Creek and his 11 year old daughter Martha were injured when a car driven by E B Pyott Bluefield struck the Austin truck on Princeton road. Pyott was arrested for drunk driving and leaving the scene. Martha suffered a fractured arm with bruises. Peg was treated and discharged. Authorities retrieved two whiskey bottles found at the scene.
Grandmother Mrs Dwight Morrow may be recalled to testify in the Hauptmann trial to support alibi claims for Violet Sharpe on the night of the Lindbergh kidnapping. Prosecutors say few rebuttal witnesses are needed as defense evidence is considered weak and jurors could see a verdict by week’s end.
