After hours of deliberation the jury could not reach a verdict in the Gall T. Dudgeon versus Mutual Benefit Health and Accident case and was dismissed until morning. Mrs Dudgeon of Welch sues for full policy benefits after her husband’s May 1082 accident near Gilbert.
C F Stowers a noted Bland County farmer from the Cove Creek area was admitted to St Luke s hospital yesterday in critical condition with a diabetic infection of his right foot. Doctors expect amputation late this week if his condition permits.
Tom King, cashier of the National Bank of Marion, Virginia, was found dead in bed at his Marion home yesterday morning. He was a brother of C. L. King of Pearlaburg, a former resident of the city.

Justice V A C Kingston of Ontario will preside as hearings begin on charges of theft by bailee against former Chicago utilities magnate Martin Insull. King announces Insull must appear for arraignment on February 7 and a March 5 extradition hearing is likely.
John Edward Jones, colored, an employee of Weyanoke Coal and Coke, suffered severe injuries when a mine car wrecked early last night. His leg was amputated about four inches below the knee at St Luke's hospital in Bluefield before transfer to Providence hospital.
Washington reports the government closed seven months of its 1933 fiscal year with a deficit of 1,271,721,031. Revenue from all sources totaled 1,188,506,910 while outlays reached 92,410,228,941. Public debt stood near 20.8 billion, with income declines despite higher internal taxes. Income tax for the period was 358,556,709 versus 635,817,908 a year earlier.
The Pennsylvania Public Service Commission filed a petition with the Interstate Commerce Commission opposing a proposed 30 cent per ton increase in Lake Cargo bituminous coal freight rates. It argues the rise would burden Pennsylvania coal and harm northern districts while noting the Wheeling and Lake Erie lines and other routes create regional differentials that would widen unfavorably.
Pittsburgh February 2 The wedding celebration of John Coyne 66 and Irene Garbert 20 was interrupted when Coyne's 22 year old son committed a deadly act. Police reported the young bride died as the scene unfolded and authorities investigated the family tragedy.
H. G. Otey of Welch, formerly of Bluefield, elected vice president and executive officer of the Bank of Bramwell after a directors meeting. He will remain vice president of McDowell County National Bank and keep his board seat. The Otey family will live in Bluefield with a residence move planned in two to three months. Otey previously served in Washington with the comptroller of currency and has held key West Virginia banking roles. He leads Group Five of the West Virginia Bankers Association and chairs taxation and legislative committee for the state bankers group. He also presides Welch Retail Merchants and Business Men's association and has been active in community affairs.
Jess Billings of Turkey Gap Coal and Coke company was readmitted to St. Luke's hospital for treatment of a bad infection after two of his fingers were amputated when his hand was caught between bumpers of a mining car a week earlier. He reentered yesterday for care.
Pittsburgh February 2. A verdict convicting Mrs Anna Allas 38 and Mrs Mary Challa 31 of first degree murder was returned late today after charges of pardoning Steven Alla 12 year old stepson of Mrs Allas. The penalty fixed was life imprisonment. The two women faced the case in a volatile trial centering on the boy’s death.
The case centers on Steven and Andrew, with Mrs Young testifying she warned the women about a plot to harm children for insurance. Defendants deny charges and accuse Young of curses. Other witnesses say Steven died after allegedly being fed teaspoons of holy water. A separate note mentions a comet sighting in 1932.
Reports indicate Japan plans to stay in the league amid a disputed subset of recommendations. A nine member sub committee is expected to be formed to draft the final recommendations for the assembly report. A committee of nineteen may meet Thursday to review the full draft before a plenary session next Monday to decide acción.
Miss Edith McNeer who recently underwent a serious operation for bilateral frontal sinuses is recovering nicely at St Luke's Hospital. She is expected to be able to leave the hospital on Saturday or Sunday.
